Gold Coast (Broadbeach)
monorail, light rail under construction

You could call the
Gold Coast, 85 km from Brisbane, the Las Vegas of Australia but that would not be doing it justice. A 1.3 km monorail links the Oasis shopping mall on Broadbeach (known as the Shopping Resort!) with the Pan Pacific Gold Coast Hotel and Jupiter's Casino. Broadbeach also has another monorail connecting the Nara Resort Hotel with Seaworld.

In March 2009, a light rail system
was approved for the city. The first 13 km line is expected to open in 2014. Construction began in 2010, and will include a subway station at the University, multiple elevated sections and a spectacular bridge over the Narang River.

There is also a
monorail in the Gold Coast which was once to be a part of a larger system.

Not everyone is happy about the new light rail. These surfer meter maids have chained themselves to a tree to prevent the train from coming through.
