You could call the Gold Coast, 85 km from Brisbane, the Las Vegas of Australia but that would not be doing it justice. A 1.3 km monorail links the Oasis shopping mall on Broadbeach (known as the Shopping Resort!) with the Pan Pacific Gold Coast Hotel and Jupiter's Casino. Broadbeach also has another monorail connecting the Nara Resort Hotel with Seaworld.

In March2009, a light rail system was approved for the city. The first 13 km line is expected to open in 2014, with construction starting in 2010.
