Innsbruck
tram,
premetro under construction, funicular subway
A
comprehensive network of 4 tram lines, 2 of which are interurbans, serve
this town of 128,000 human beings. The notorious Line 6 is a
mountain interurban run by the Lokalbahn. As of 2002,
plans were being made for several extensions, and replacement of trolleybus "O" with a
new tram line. To date, nothing, although a few rumours exist
of a downtown tram tunnel under construction.
Innsbruck is also home to the 18 km
Stubaitalbahn interurban,
which opened in
1904.
 Now under re-construction
and scheduled to open in December 2007 is the 1.8 km Hungerburgbahn,
part of which includes stations in tunnels. Since it is on rails and
serves a metro area, it could be officially
considered a subway.
