Graz currently has a 9 line streetcar system, one of which runs only during the fair. Graz began discussing a metro system in 1997. This from Steve Stipsits who wrote the article:

"Some politicians were discussing a metro network consists of three lines. The district council engaged a swiss company to examine the possibility of a metro network.In june 2000 the company presented the study of the possibilities of a metro
network or a tram network extension. The content of the study was: A metro network is unprofitable (too high costs, not enough passengers for profitability) Instead the tram network should be extended.Since that nothing has happend. No comment. Nothing! But that´s typical of Graz. A lot of discussions no result."
