Since the war, the 16 km 6 station Sarajevo tramway, originally opened in 1895, has been restored. Tram service was stopped because they were frequent targets for bullets and shells. Part of the tram's route passed through what many still call Sniper's Alley.  A subway was planned by Milosevich but never implemented. In 2008, the first of a fleet of modern trams arrived.

According to one source, a light rail in tunnel was run by thea rmy in 1993 for transport of people and goods in "wheelbarrow-like trolley cars". .
