subway under construction
Line one of the two line Fortaleza metro, or "Metrofor", is due to open in 2012. Both lines are being converted from suburban railway standards to metro, including a 4 km tunnel under the city. The first line will have 18 stations, the second 10. The Empressa (operating authority) also mentions the construction of a 22 km cargo line which will share the metro's tracks. When completed, the system is expected to have four lines and 62.8 km of track.
