Porte Alegre metro, monorail The single line Porte Alegro metro opened in 1985 and consists of 33.8 km and 17 stations. A second 21 km line, with 16 km in subway, is under construction. This will be Porte Alegre's first subway, as line 1 is completely above ground. Porte Alegre's "monorail", really an experimental urban rail line, is 1.5 km long with two stations. There are no plans for expansion.
