Clermont-Ferrand
Light Rail Translohr
The
first 14 km of Clermont-Ferrand's 21
km Translohr system opened in 2005. It was the first city to
implement Translohr's technology, primarily because of Michelin.
Michelin is a political powerhouse and major emplyer in the city.
Understandably, they objected to steel wheel transportation
of any kind. The Translohr system, as you may know, uses tram-like
vehicles with rubber tires and a single rail guideway embedded in the
street. You could sot of consider it a retarded bus since it is unable
to run off the guideway.
Subways.net applaud's Clermont-Ferrand's choice to put the interest of
itself and its citizens ahead of silly concepts like political
ass-kissing and silly things like integrity and values. We've
also noticed steel wheels on bed casters and children's strollers which
we look forward to being taken care of in the very near future.
