Lyon also has three light raiul lines. Line C is actually a rack railway and does indeed run underground. Line D is fully automated. Lines A and B run on rubber tires. Line C, Croix-Rousse-Croix-Paquet, claims to be the steepest metro in Europe at a grade of 17%.

Lyon-Rhone Express is a high speed light railway opened in January 2010. It serves the Lyon Airport with the central city. In addition, the French national railways (SNCF) is establishing a tram train network. The first line will connect Lyon Saint Paul with Sain-Bell.
