Montpellier
Light Rail
Montpellier is home to two tram lines, with a third in the planning
stages. Line 1 opened in 2000 and totals 15.2 km and 27 stations. Line
2 is 19.8 km long with 33 stations. Line 3 is expected to
open in 2012. Each
Line 1 tram is named after a Montpellier metro area community
leader; on tram Line 2, trams are named after historic Montpellians. According to Wikipedia, Line 2 is the longest tram line in France. But lets get real. Do any of us give a shit?

The extension of Line 1 in Montpellier opened in late September, at the same time as a new outdoor shopping mall which it now serves. The original Odysseum station was renamed Place de la France, and the old name has been transferred to the new station a few hundred metres away.
Montpellier also has its own tram board game, tramwer.
What are the birds one the cars, you ask? Why sparrows, of course!le
