Trolley: The Cars That Built Our Cities (54 minutes) is perhaps the best "general interest" traction video on the market. This fast paced, chronologically organized documentary is narrated in a way that will make the history of the American streetcar and it's influence on the country's growth and development both clear and interesting. Footage through the 1890's through the 1990's, much of it rare and unusual, shows horse, cable, steam and electric powered transit in all it's forms: open cars and closed cars, single-truck and double truck, Birneys and Peter Witts, and of course PCCs. Cities shown include all the major "streetcar cities" in North America, plus a small sampling from abroad.
An abridged version of Trolley was originally
broadcast on the Arts & Entertainment Network in January 1993. This
video is the complete and original version.
