The HÉV

This is Budapest's commuter railroad. In many ways, it functions as an overgrown subway. Several lines are underground. As other forms of Budapest transport, it's rolling stock is Spartan yet comfortable.

There are six HÉV-lines. The northern lines are connected with the metro at Batthyány Tér, while the four eastern and southern lines can be reached only via tram.

The line to Szentendre at Batthyány tér is said to be the most enjoyable for railfans. It runs in subway up until Margit híd (Marget Bridge), the remainder of the line being very much like an interurban.
