India has always been known for it's trains, but most of the tram systems have closed. Even Calcutta's old tramway system, though it has not always curried favour with the locals,  is in danger of being scrapped.

What some don't know is that the beefy subcontinent boasts several modern rail transit systems, including two subway systems in New Delhi and Calcutta. The question now is, will the cows ride for free, or will they be made to buy tickets like the rest of us.

Some cities considering an MRTS (the Asian version of an urban rail system), include Cochin, Coimbatore Goa, Nagpur, Surat, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mysore and many more.

Diesel
railbus service is also found on the subcontinent.
