Some cities considering an MRTS (the Asian version of an urban rail system), include Cochin,
Coimbatore Goa, Nagpur, Surat, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mysore and many more. A monorail plan and metro systems are also in the early planning stages for Jaipur in Rajasthan and in Chennai.

railbus service is also found on the subcontinent.
