2001 LRTA report

The three line Florentine tram network will consist of 22 km of at-grade track. Work is expected to being in 2004 on Line 1, 7.6 km connecting Santa Maria Novella to Scandicci, including a new bridge over the Arno River. Completion of the first section is targeted for 2007.

Line 2 will have 19 stops and 7.5 km, linking Peretola with Piazza Libertà.  Line 3 will be 4.5 km long will run from the Careggi hospital complex via Rifredi and Statuto stations to Fortezza. An extension to Line 3 is planned with two branches.

The line will use low floor trams.

Work will also being in 2007 on a 7 km railway tunnel with a large underground terminus.
