Venice
tram, people mover

No, it's not an underground gondola on rails. And its not a sandwich restaurant in California. I's a real lagoon subway, very much like the one we used to watch weekly on Gilligan's Island. The underground railway, or "
Sublagunare",  is expected to serve Venice and the surrounding area, including the airport. The line has already been approved but the technology is still under debate. Emergency boots and scuba gear will be located in each car. Roast pigeon concessions are expected to cover operating expenses.

While waiting for the subway to be built, there is good news coming down the track. The first line of a 20 km two line translohr light railway opened in October 2010. The line cuurently serves the town of Mestre but will eventually connect Venice with the general Mestre metro area. This will be the first Trannslohr to have it's own subway station. Another section may include a five mile subway linking the airport with Venice, but exact plans  are unclear.

Peoplemover

An 857 meter Dopplemeyer peoplemover is opened in February 2010. It connects an office park with the main island. The project is cosponsored by
Funivie, an Italian funicular group that put the 'Fun' in funicular.
