Located on Kyushu, Kumamoto has 2 12 km tram lines, both run by the Kumamoto City Transportation Bureau. The first Kumamoto tram opened in 1904. Recently, the older trams were replaced with low floor Adtranz models.

The Kumaden
is a tram line (in the picture it looks almost like a Japanese Bud)
which is reminiscent of the South Shore line in South Bend, Indiana. In fact, one site claims the cars used are ex-Tokyo subway cars. All tram lines in Kumamoto are known as Kikuchi densha
