Light rail subway

Goteborg''s first tram opened in 1879, with electrification beginning in 1902. The 12 routes cover 117 km km of track, 2 of which are underground, remnants for 1960's plans for a premetro gone bad. A city center 3 station tunnel is in the planning stages, and has been for over a decade. The newest plans call for a ground breaking in 2011. The existing underground section of Goteborg's tram system are actually in a suburban setting.

Most of Goteborg's tramway is grade sperated street running. The section to Angered is of light rail standards, although many Angered passsengers complain of slow tram speeds on sections built for higher speeds.
