Locarno
Interurban Subway

The 32.3 km CentovalliRailway is a real interurban in country and townsettings in Locarno, Switzerland, with three subway stations with more planned. Run by Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi, hence the smelly name. The FART section of the Centovalli is a real light rail subway that connects Italy with Switzerland via a breathtaking journey. More than just a tourist line, the railway serves local patons and commuters in both Locarno Switzerland and Domodossola Italy.

Locarno is also home to the
Ponte Tersa interurban electric railway, theSan Salvatore cable railway and theLocarno cable car.

The Ponte Tersa tramway enters the tunnel to it's own subway station. It opened in 1912 and is
simply gorgeous. Plans for the tramway include an extension to Italy and several additional subway stations, turning it into a true metro. It is the last of a seven line electric tramway network. It currently uses second hand FART trains and is part of the S-Bahn network.
