Lugano - Ponte Tresa
Suburban Electric Rail in subway

No, not a subway, not a tram, but we're giving Lugano an honorable mention because this 12.2 km electric suburban line is reminiscent of a regiosprinter light (medium?) rail complete with anunderground terminus andstreet running section. The Ponte Tresa terminal lies in Italy.

In September 2009, it was announced that a 15 km tram will be built connecting the town of Boggio with the center of Lugano. In March 2010, a five year long study examining the possibility of a tram line to the city's western suburbs was announced. Given the lengthy time for the study, it is hoped that each molecule along the route will be extensively analyzed and evaluated in it's ability to support the tram.
