Zermatt
funicular subway (aka Alpine Metro)

Though alpine subways are not really metros, I'm including them in this project because they are as fun to ride as metros. Zermatt, which also has it's own
underground lake, is one of two stations of the Matterhorn Metro. Well, no, it's the Sunnegga Express. The line connects with Sunnegga ("sunny corners"), though the ride through the tunnel is very cold, grim and gloomy. It is run by the Zermatt Mountain Transport Company, which also runs several cog railways, gondolas. and the Klein Matterhorn. The line opened in 1981 and according to the New York times was the first ever mountain subway.

Zermatt is also home to the Matterhorn Express, or
Gornertgatbahn, a 9.4 km cog railway that opened in 1898 which connects with the town of Gonergrat,
