LRT subway
A 26 station, 23 km two line subway wasunder construction for many years in this city which was once the capital of the Ottoman empire. Part of the line's history goes back to an 1870's Ottoman steam railway. The system finally opened in 2001, with a 2.9 km long Line 2 opened in 2010 bringing the current total length to 26.6 km and 26 stations. A 2.5 km extension to Line 1 is scheduled to open in in 2012. The system will eventually be 55 km long, built in 4 phases. In the first phase, 3.7 km and
3 stations are underground.
