tramway
Brighton is home to the Volks Electric Railway. While far from a subway in any sense of the word, the 1 mile, 3 station line is a real British tramway that has existed since 1883. This line is powered by one of the old "tramways on stilts" seen in old photos. It is the oldest surviving electric railway in the world.
