Sheffield's light rail, also known as the Supertram, serves South Yorkshire County. It opened for business in 1994 and currently serves 48 stations over a 29 km 3 line route.

A Karlsruhe style tram train is planned to operate over part of the Sheffield light rail network. The line will share tracks with the light rail network and connect Sheffield with the town of Rotherham. Sheffield's tram-train is expected to begin service in 2016.
