Sacramento's two light rail lines stretch 70 km.and have 54 stations. Originally in large part single tracked, the system has since been upgraded. Opened in 1987, some of the system runs on unused freeway sections.
Part of a 4.2 mile extension to the Blue Line opened in 2015. A number of projects, including a new Green Line is also in the late planning stages, and will connect downtown Sacramento with the airport and it's River District.
