ValleyTransportation Authority. The county also includes cities such as Mountain View, Sunnyvale and Santa Teresa.

The first light rail line opened in 1987. As of November 2009, there are two lines and one spur totaling 67.9 km and 62 stations. VTA also operates a heritage trolley line in downtown San Jose. The lines uses existing light rail tracks is known as
route 920.

While there are no subway stations the Vasona line does travel through a large tunnel with a trench station at one end..

Two extensions
are in the early planning stages, as well as a 16 mile BART extension connecting Milpitas with Santa Clara, including a 5 mile subway section in downtown San Jose.
