The only thing close to a subway in Florida is the restaurant and a submarine. But wait, don't go away just yet! Our high water level friend does have some pretty cool fixed guideway systems to offer us. An APM and an elevated Metro in Miami. A monorail metro in Jacksonville. A heritage streetcar in Tampa, with plans to morph into a light rail. And plans for light rail, streetcars and even monorail in several cities, including Ft. Lauderdale's "The Wave" streetcar, Gainesville's streetcar, Jacksonville, Sarasota, Orlando and Miami. A full light rail system is almost a given in Fort Lauderdale's Broward County, while diesel commuter and light rail in Orlando is a bit more tenuous but not dead yet. And a proposal in St. Augustine for a new heritage streetcar line emerged in early 2014..
