streetcar under construction
Although it closed in 1974, the city of El Paso is reviving
it's streetcar system with the help of a
$97 million grant from the state of Texas.
The starter line will run in a 5.2 mile loop. The funds were awarded in June 2014 and construction began in late 2015.
Plans include the refurbishment of the old PCC fleet which once sat decaying adjacent to an El Paso Airport runway.
